Image to Vector FAQ
Straight answers about tracing bitmaps into SVG, what the free tier includes, and how VectorAI compares with other vectorizers.
Is VectorAI free to use?
Yes. You can trace an image and export an SVG on the free tier without a credit card. Pro plans add larger output sizes, higher detail and DXF/EPS export for laser cutting and print.
What image formats can I convert?
Upload JPG, JPEG or PNG files and export SVG. Pro plans also export DXF and EPS, which are the formats laser cutters, CNC machines and print workflows expect.
How is VectorAI different from Vectorizer.ai?
Both are AI-powered tracers. VectorAI has a free tier with no credit card required, while Vectorizer.ai charges $9.99/month for its web app as of October 2026. See the full comparison for details.
What kinds of images trace best?
Logos, line drawings, silhouettes, icons, lettering and flat-colour illustration produce the cleanest vectors. Photographs with soft gradients or heavy texture are harder for every tracer, including this one.
Can I use the output for laser cutting or CNC?
Yes. Export SVG for design software, or DXF and EPS on Pro plans for laser cutters, CNC routers and vinyl plotters. Centerline-friendly artwork traces cleanly as paths.
Do you keep my uploads?
Uploaded images are used only to produce your vector and are deleted after 24 hours. You can read the details in the privacy policy.
How does AI vectorization work?
The engine segments the bitmap into colour regions, fits smooth Bezier curves to their boundaries and nests the resulting paths by layer. The output is an editable SVG where each shape is a path you can recolor or reshape.
Do I need Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and the SVG downloads directly. You only need a vector editor if you want to modify the result afterwards; free tools such as Inkscape and Figma open the files fine.
Can I vectorize a logo from a screenshot?
Yes. The logo tracer is built for reconstructing brand assets from low-resolution screenshots and sketches. Use the AI logo tracer page, then tidy the result in your editor if needed.
What is the difference between outline and centerline tracing?
Outline tracing follows the edges of each shape and is best for filled artwork and print. Centerline tracing reduces strokes to a single path down the middle, which is what engraving and some cutting workflows want. DXF export on Pro plans is designed for those workflows.
Are gradients and anti-aliased edges preserved?
The engine handles anti-aliasing at the edges of shapes and reconstructs colour regions, so soft blends become layered vector shapes rather than stair-stepped pixels. Very subtle photographic gradients are the hardest case.
Can I use the vectors commercially?
You keep the rights to artwork you own and upload. The acceptable use policy explains the limits; do not upload images you have no right to reproduce.
